Getting ready to buy a Gill (Woods) HBL72 for my JD 4300 and wondered if anyonehas had any good or bad experiences with it. Comments, good or bad, would be helpful. Thanks... RB

I have the lighter duty Woods (Gill) RB72 and am pleased with it and the way it works with my JD4100. According to my Woods brochure, the blade you are considering is suited for tractors up to 60 hp. Woods (Gill) makes high quality equipment. Don't see how you could go wrong. ....

Check if the blade will pivot around in reverse without fouling the rear tires.This is esssential. Also, if they offer end pieces for the blade to turn it intoa quasi-box blade then you may want to consider ordering them. Roger L. ....

I have the Gill (no Woods stickers on this one!) HBL84 and am VERY pleased with it. It replaced a light duty 6' blade that was getting torn up with my snow plowing. The Gill blade is VERY heavy, tilts, offsets, etc. and has an 18" mold board which was a HUGE improvement over the other blade and dramatically cut my plowing time. Bottom line? I'd buy the blade again (I got it (slightly) used). The Tufline blades mentioned in another post are but off of the same design and are nearly identical except for the thickness, the height of the mold board, and the fact that the Tuflines have a stand for the plow when off the tractor that I wish the Gill had. The Tuflines are also cheaper. Only problem is, do they have a dealer anywhere near you? They didn't in my case and the hassle and cost of shipping to me was not worth the $100 differenc in price I paid for the Gill. ....

I just went and looked at the Tufline equipment and it looks nice too. It remindsme of the blades I've owned. I started with a $300 dollar 6 footwide light blade and quickly found it inadequate. Too light, narrow, low, weak, and it wouldonly angle. The next one was still 6 feet wide, but a bunchheavier built. It was a stock one off of an old 8N Ford and not only angled, andtilted,but also had a type of slide-the-blade offset which required a couple ofwrenches and a lot of spare time.....not to mention some strength. It was notquite strong enough. And not nearly wide enoughI began too look around for a really good blade and next tried an 8 foot JohnDeere. It had no offset, only angle and tilt. But it taught me the value of aproperly shaped moldboard. That blade would "roll" the soil in the blade...noneof the others did that! By now I was into big heavy blades, so when I saw an evenbigger and heavier one I had to have it. This one is the one I currently have.It is called a "BIG RHINO" and is industrial yellow. Lots of cast iron pieces - This blade is heavy and curved much like the JD moldboard. The width is 8 feet.It comes with a stand, end plates, and will tilt, angle, and offset easily withthe "pin in another hole" system. My tractor can barely lift it, but it suredoes nice work. Finally I've come up with a blade that does real work instead of just sortof picking at the ground. I find that I use it a lot. So much so that I wish Ihad gotten it with the hydraulic adjustments. The next blade will have to haveall of the features of this one, and also 3-way hydraulic controls. ....

Roger you comment that the tufline is a nice blade but then compare it to other blades that you have had then tell us how the other blades were not up to the job. I have ordered a Tufline blade do you think it will do the job or should I cancel the order. ....

My Gill 7' blade easily clears the rear wheels when I rotate the blade. The frame from the 3pt keeps the blade well away from the tires. This was NOT the case on my cheap 6' blade. ....
